چکیده
Advances in computing as well as measurement instrumentation have recently allowed for the investigation of a wider spectrum of physical phenomena in dynamic failure than previously possible. The current status and potential topics for research in dynamic failure mechanics are described in this article. These include basic research in dynamic crack initiation and growth in brittle materials, elastic±plastic solids, heterogeneous solids, such as layered materials and composites, and adiabatic shear banding in ductile materials. Research that would bene®t and advance practical applications such as aircraft hardening, micrometeorite impact shielding and high speed machining is also outlined. For each of the topics, research needs in terms of theory, numerical simulation and validation as well as experimentation are described. # 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Failure Pressure Prediction of Semi Spherical GFRP Shells in Thermal Environment
In this article fluid-structure interaction of vibrating composite piezoelectric plates is investigated. Since the plate is assumed to be moderately thick, rotary inertia effects and transverse shear deformation effects are deliberated by applying exponential shear deformation theory. Fluid velocity potential is acquired using the Laplace equation, and fluid boundary conditions and wet dynamic ...
متن کاملDynamic Fracture Analysis Using an Uncoupled Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian Finite Element Formulation
This paper deals with the implementation of an efficient Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) formulation for the three dimensional finite element modeling of mode I self-similar dynamic fracture process. Contrary to the remeshing technique, the presented algorithm can continuously advance the crack with the one mesh topology. The uncoupled approach is employed to treat the equations. So, each t...
متن کاملDYNAMIC SIMULATION OF A HIGH PRESSURE REGULATOR
In this paper, the dynamic simulation for a high pressure regulator is performed to obtain the regulator behavior. To analyze the regulator performance, the equation of motion for inner parts, the continuity equation for diverse chambers and the equation for mass flow rate were derived. Because of nonlinearity and coupling, these equations are solved using numerical methods and the results are ...
متن کاملDynamical stability of cantilevered pipe conveying fluid in the presence of linear dynamic vibration absorber
When the velocity of fluid flow in a cantilevered pipe is successively increased, the system may become unstable and flutter instability would occur at a critical flow velocity. This paper is concerned with exploring the dynamical stability of a cantilevered fluid-conveying pipe with an additional linear dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) attachment. It is endeavoured to show that the stability o...
متن کاملAPPLICATION OF PARTIAL DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS IN SNOW MECHANICS
In the present work, failure of a snow slab is analyzed by accounting Normal mode criteria. The analysis has been extended to include residual stress into the model (in addition to body forces). Intensity of crack energy release rate, and displacement components have been derived and their values have been estimated. The obtained results have been compared with the existing snow slab failure mo...
